Numeracy at a glance
| Section 1 | Section 2 | |
|---|---|---|
| Questions | 52 | 13 |
| Calculator | On-screen, available | Not available |
| Suggested time | About 90 to 95 minutes | About 25 to 30 minutes |
The 120 minutes covers both sections. ACER does not enforce a split; the suggested times above are a sensible allocation, and the common mistake is rushing Section 1 to bank time for Section 2. The calculator questions are where most of the marks are.
Question types
- Multiple choice with four options, the majority of the paper.
- Short answer, where you type a number.
- Statement tables, where you mark several statements true or false against a stimulus such as a table or graph.
Questions draw on three content strands (Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, Statistics and Probability) and three process domains (identifying, applying, interpreting), across school, personal and community, and further-education contexts.
The literacy component
The literacy component is also 65 questions in 120 minutes, split between reading and technical writing (language conventions). Free full-length literacy papers are at passLiteracy, with the same free account.
